Dirk-Jan van Dijk studied at the Photo Academy in Amsterdam. Averse to the many theory lessons and attracted by the real work, he left the Academy after two years and largely learned the tricks of the trade himself. Fascinated by both the appearance and the physical appearance of people, it was not surprising that Van Dijk quickly put the emphasis on portrait photography.
Dirk-Jan van Dijk's work is characterized by a certain casualness. Through simplicity and tranquility. His photos are an interpretation and registration of the meeting between photographer and subject, in which Van Dijk directs as little as possible.
Although Van Dijk is best known for his portraits of top athletes at home and abroad, he is just as happy to photograph those people who also add color to society. From the man on the street to artists and politicians.
Dirk-Jan van Dijk works for both commercial and editorial clients. His work appears in various Dutch newspapers and magazines, including Helden Magazine.
