Malou van Breevoort graduated from the Fotoacademie in 2003, majoring in conceptual portraiture. Since graduating, she has been working for both editorial and commercial clients at home and abroad. Malou photographs well-known and less well-known people; makes photos with a story and/or concept and works both on location and in the studio. In addition to her portrait work, Van Breevoort also works as a travel photographer. For her clients, she travels to all corners of the world to capture remote, often hard-to-reach areas and its inhabitants.
Malou' her work is characterized by a striking use of color and interplay of lines. Her images exude tranquility, but often also contain subtle humor, preferably woven into a visual story.
Malou received several nominations and awards for her work, including the Aad Struijs Press Award for the best visual story of 2019 - shot on the remote Indonesian island of Siberut. At the Spotlight Awards, Malou van Breevoort captured a pitch on the shortlist in the Beauty category.
Her editorial clients include Volkskrant Magazine, Belgian daily De Morgen, Columbus Travel and Mezza. Malou lensed commercial work for AVROTROS, ABN Amro, G-Star, Google, T-Mobile and the DeLaMar Theater, among others.
